Eager to add value to her 1980s’ home, a Pukekohe homeowner sought the help of Jag Kitchens and received a stylish, modern kitchen to be proud of.
Maureen Kumar’s legacy to her sons was going to be her two-bedroom home nestled in the heart of Pukekohe. But before she could pass it on to them, it first needed refreshing.
Naturally, the old kitchen had to go. “It was absolutely Draconian and had an electric stove!” Maureen says. “It was very old and worked fine, but it didn’t look good at all.”
Finding someone to do the job was easy as Maureen’s son, Mark and his wife Sheree had heard only good things about Jag Kitchens.
And that was further reinforced when they and Maureen visited the Jag Kitchens showroom in the Danske Mobler Home Centre in Botany and met Jag Kitchens designer, Angela Purdy.
“She was so friendly and very easy to talk to,” Maureen says. “She really knew her stuff – that was obvious.”
Angela who has had years of experience working with kitchens says listening to Maureen, Mark and Sheree’s input was crucial. “Everyone has different opinions and tastes. The challenge was to combine all these elements together in a cohesive way.”
The outcome was a stunning red and grey kitchen with a black and white chequered floor – a real feature of the home. “The floor was a joke initially, but then we realised it would work! We love it,” Maureen says.
Complete with glossy red, round pendant lights, a red splashback and matching accessories, the new kitchen brightens up the home and is a joy to behold. “I just love coming home and seeing the red of the kitchen,” Maureen says.
The breakfast bar and its suave red stools serve not only as aesthetic features, but are great from a social aspect as well. “When I have friends over, we sit here all the time. They think the kitchen’s delightful too!”
Not just a pretty face, the kitchen is not short of practical functions. “I love the gas stove,” Maureen says. “But I’m also thrilled with the touch cupboards that shut with the slightest nudge together with the lovely big drawers and cupboards which are so useful for storing large pots and pans.”
“The sink is beautiful too,” she adds. “It’s so big and deep – I can fit the roasting pan in it now!”
Add to these a revolving Mondo corner, a rubbish insert and sleek stainless steel appliances, and Maureen’s kitchen has become the very epitome of modern day functionality with a touch of retro styling.
The happy homeowner says the family is pleasantly surprised with how everything has turned out. “The kitchen looks wonderful and Mark and Sheree absolutely love it. We’re very proud of achieving what we all set out to do and Angela’s done a marvellous job!”
