Amazing Granite Benchtop with Jag Kitchens

Beautiful granite benchtop by Jag KitchensA large titanium gold honed granite bench is the ‘piece de resistance’ in a very dramatic kitchen designed by Jag Kitchens for Gaye and Nigel Powell of Mission Bay.  The beautiful eye-catching bench at the heart of this contemporary kitchen has spectacular veining and a large waterfall end.

The new kitchen includes cabinetry in Arctic Grey with accents of Carbon and has black recessed handles. It has a bold bronze light fitting (with an embossed white interior on the shade) centred over the sink. The space is enhanced by the rich colour of the existing wooden floors.

The Powells moved into the seven-year-old home just over a year ago and have set about putting their stamp on the property with a collection of stylish furniture (antique and modern blended beautifully), colourful art pieces and quality oriental rugs.

The Powells’ first major change has been to update the kitchen and adjoining laundry. “The original kitchen was all very white and had no personality, while the laundry didn’t suit us the way it had been designed,” Gaye explains.

On discovering that that Jag Kitchens also work on laundry renovations, she collaborated closely with Jag Kitchens designer Megan Dyer, to make a workable plan for both the areas. A piece of the same stunning granite used in the kitchen was used in the laundry as well. The cabinetry is the same Arctic Grey as the kitchen, but with some white accents to create a lighter look.

Laundry storage with Jag Kitchens“Before the laundry was a space dominated by dark cupboards, it now feels lighter and is so much easier to use. I also have a favourite feature – a hanging rail to hang shirts on,” Gaye adds.

She believes these two renovated rooms are not only more functional than they previously were— but also flow better and fit in more with the  character of their vibrant home.

“In the kitchen, we have the benchtop extended right into the windowsill area – making the benchtop deeper and more streamlined. This was a slightly tricky job with the granite, but works well. It’s great to work at the bench and enjoy a nice view into the garden at the same time. The whole project went very well, Megan worked very hard at it and the result is absolutely perfect,” she adds.

And designer Megan, is also delighted with the outcome and enjoyed working with the Powells on the project.

In the new kitchen, all modern appliances have been used. The fridge is a double door ice-maker and the oven tower includes a double oven with a built-in microwave. The rangehood is a super quiet model with a remote mounted  motor and there is an induction cooktop. The kitchen also has spaces for separate wine and beer fridges on the outer side of the peninsula bar.
